Terms of service

Last updated 29 October 2026. These terms apply to your use of mtd-software.co.uk (the “Service”), provided by [YOUR LEGAL NAME OR COMPANY NAME] (“we”, trading as MTD Software), [BUSINESS ADDRESS]. Contact: [CONTACT EMAIL].

The Service

The Service is a calculator that turns bank entries you supply into cumulative self-employment figures and a PDF. Unless and until we tell you that submission to HMRC is available in your account, it does not submit anything to HMRC, and you must use HMRC-recognised software or your accountant. Where submission is available, we send only the figures you confirm, and you remain responsible for them. We are not affiliated with HMRC, 123 Sheets or any other third party we link to.

No tax advice

The Service is a calculation tool, not tax, legal or accounting advice. You are responsible for choosing the correct category for every entry, for checking the figures, and for what you submit to HMRC. Rules change, so check GOV.UK or ask an adviser if unsure.

Your account

You need an account to use the calculator. Keep your password private. Your account is for you or your business only, and you must not share your login or let others use it. We may suspend an account that is shared or misused.

Subscription and payment

Access costs £50 per year [state whether this includes VAT], paid in advance through Stripe. Access starts as soon as payment is confirmed. [Because access to digital content starts immediately, consumers can lose the 14-day cancellation right once they agree to this at sign-up. Have this wording checked, and make sure the sign-up checkbox in auth.js matches it.] [Describe renewal: for example, the subscription renews automatically each year until cancelled, and you can cancel any time from your account or by emailing us.] [Describe your refund and cancellation policy. Consumers have statutory rights, so take advice.]

Your data and backups

Your figures are processed in your browser and are not stored by us. Download a backup with “Save my data” to keep your work. We cannot recover data that you have not saved. See our privacy policy.

Acceptable use

You may use the Service for your own business records or, if you are an accountant or bookkeeper, for your clients. You must not copy or resell the Service, interfere with its operation, or use it unlawfully.

Availability and changes

We aim to keep the Service available and accurate but do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free. We may change the Service, for example to reflect rule changes.

Liability

We do not exclude liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be excluded by law. Otherwise, to the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for penalties, interest or tax resulting from figures you submit, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the fees you paid in the previous 12 months. [Have a solicitor review this clause.]

General

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales and its courts have jurisdiction, although if you are a consumer you may also have rights to use the courts where you live. We may update these terms and will change the date above when we do.
